چکیده
Abstract Nest design is one factor contributing to floor-laying in farmed poultry. We investigated: (i) if ducks ( Anas platyrhynchos ) prefer a particular nest substrate; and (ii) how important that preference them, indicated by stress-induced hyperthermia, egg albumen corticosterone, behaviour. Twelve female were trained push-door task had temperature data loggers implanted. Preference testing identified the most least preferred substrates between sawdust, astroturf, hemp fibres. A behavioural demand test then required use push-doors access nests containing either or substrate. The substrate door was loaded with increasing weight (0–120% of bodyweight, four nights per workload) eventually blocked prevent access. remained unweighted. overall rank order preferences sawdust > astroturf. Six 12 birds pushed all workloads attempted push door. area under curve (AUC) hyperthermia larger when compared 0%. AUC did not differ 2–4 night 1. Egg corticosterone unaffected. conclude laying Pekin manipulatable accessing enough pay cost. results indicate should be provided commercially nesting ducks.

Energy Values of Feed Ingredients for White Pekin Ducks
A modified true metabolizable energy bioassay was used to determine the nitrogen-corrected apparent (AMEn) and true (TMEn) metabolizable energy of various feed ingredients for ducks. In each of two experiments, which lasted 102 h with a 54-h excreta collection period following a 48-h period of feed withdrawal, six male White Pekin ducks were assigned to each of three test feed ingredients and d...

This study examines relationships among health information orientation, situational perceptual frames, and active information behaviors pertinent to the safety controversy of genetically-modified (GM) food technology. A web survey was conducted in the US (N = 393). Based on our findings, an integrative model of Kim and Grunig’s (2011) Situational Theory of Problem Solving (STOPS) and Dutta-Berg...
متن کاملDoes access to open water affect the health of Pekin ducks (Anas platyrhynchos)?
Access to open water is considered good for the welfare of Pekin ducks. These studies investigated the effect that the type of water resource, provided over either straw bedding or a rubber mesh, had on measures of duck health. Pekin strain ducklings (n = 2,600) were managed in pens of 100 on straw over a solid concrete floor. In study 1, one of two water resources (nipple, n = 5 pens; wide-lip...

15 صفحه اولHow preferred are preferred terms?
We present a novel approach for synonymous term preference detection that relies on chronological text analysis. Our approach analyses the use of synonymous term entries in a chronological reference corpus. As a result of preference evaluation, a ranking of preference between all the synonymous term entries belonging to the same concept is established.
